Step 1: Choose a Location for Your Vent Fan

Decide where on the truck shell you want the vent fan to be. You'll want to select an area that is as close to flat as possible.

Step 2: Measure, Mask, and Cut Your Camper Roof

Once you’ve decided on a location, measure and mask off the space where you will cut the hole for the vent fan. Drill a hole at the inside edge of each of the four corners of your marked square. This will allow you to easily reposition the jigsaw to cut out the square. Wear a particulate mask and safety glasses to protect yourself from the fiberglass dust.

Step 3: Install the Vent Fan

Remove the masking tape and clean off any fiberglass dust from around the opening. Run a layer of butyl tape around the entire top edge of the opening to help seal out water. Insert the vent fan and screw it down following the manufacturer’s installation directions. Pilot the screw holes with a small diameter drill bit to prevent the screws from cracking the fiberglass. Coat the screw threads with RV self-levelling caulk before screwing them in for added sealing.

Step 4: Install the Interior Trim Piece

Install the interior decorative trim piece to the underside of the camper shell. Cut the trim piece to the appropriate height and secure it with screws.

Spray the exterior of the vent fan installation with a garden hose to check for any potential leaks.
